Courthouse Hotel Kempinski, Oxford Street

The Courthouse Hotel is the ultimate hip yet historic hotel in the heart of London. Located amidst the capital’s bustling shopping district - a stone’s throw away from Liberty’s and the internationally renowned areas of Bond Street, Regent Street and Carnaby Street - the Courthouse Hotel offers a luxurious haven for those wishing to enjoy the best that the capital has to offer. Situated in an historic courthouse, the Grade II listed building retains much of its original splendour, including a number of quirky features. The Great Marlborough Street Magistrate’s Court has played host to many famous cases over the years, guilty or not guilty Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Oscar Wilde have all passed through the Courthouse’s doors. Many remnants of this time have been incorporated into the building’s current scheme. Original Robert Adams fireplaces adorn several of the suites, and The Bar’s private tables are actually inside three of the original prison cells. Silk, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, set to open 1st December is the old Number One court where the Judges bench, witness stand and dock take centre stage. Elsewhere in the hotel, glimpses of former use can be seen - such as the iron bars that separate the lobby from The Bar.The Courthouse Hotel, and its sister hotel The Bentley, are represented by Kempinski Hotels & Resorts, Europe’s oldest and most established luxury hotel management group.

BINGHAM - BOUTIQUE GEORGIAN TOWNHOUSE - £££

JUST SEVEN SATNAV MILES FROM THE WEST END but distant enough to feel like an out-of-town escape, Bingham sits on the banks of the rippling Thames in leafy Richmond. This chic Georgian townhouse treat is tailor-made for couples after an effortless weekend getaway from the big city, or who reckon that when it comes to London town, west is undeniably best. Behind its elegant facade, Bingham has a sleek and bold boutique-y feel – right up to its modish glass chandeliers and down to its trendy leather tub chairs. Tall Georgian windows, intricate coving and other original features are brilliantly offset by the distinctly contemporary decor. Lounge on a leather sofa in the bar and work your way through the cocktail list (we loved the signature Bingham vodka spritz), or sit on the Thameside terrace with a glass of fizz enjoying the evening rays. Stress-out London seemed a million miles away here – though it’s just half an hour by tube if you need your urban fix.
